John Akers is the Executive
Director/Senior Chaplain for the Placer
County Law Enforcement Chaplaincy.
John has been in Pastoral ministry for almost 30 years, mostly in the
Reno Sparks area. While there, he
also served 12 years as a chaplain at the Sparks
Police Department, and was a Supervisory
Chaplain and co-founder of the Truckee Meadows Law Enforcement Chaplaincy. He has been a business owner, a Life
Coach, a church planter and created a non-profit ministry that offers spiritual
direction and coaching/consulting for church leadership. During a 4-year stay in Golden Colorado
he was active with the Rocky Mountain
Spiritual Formation Partners. He is a graduate of Dr. Larry Crabb’s School of Spiritual Direction, and served on the leadership
and workshop teams for the 2007 Western
Regional Spiritual Formation Forum held at Denver Seminary. John has been
married for 41 years to his wife Debbie, who he considers God’s best gift to him They have two children and six
grandkids—two of which you see here. His interests include walking on the beach
with his wife, flying sail-planes, golf, scuba diving, music, dinners with
close friends and family, teaching, mentoring, coaching, writing and cooking.
